Would an AP union limit salaries? Wouldn a collective bargaining contract result in some sort of salary cap?

Employee organizations such as AAP are concerned with establishing decent contractual minimums, not maximums. There is nothing in unionization that requires a cap or has it as a probable consequence. Union contracts provide union employees with protection against arbitrary dismissal, fair procedures for grievance arbitration, opportunities to receive higher salaries, opportunities for professional advancement, and better benefits. These are policies that would ensure that APs are not taken advantage of in hard times like the current budget crisis. APs would have a voice in what policies are put into place and how they are carried out. We do not presently have that voice.
