With troops still deployed in Afghanistan, how will the personnel goals set out in the plan be enough to sustain another operation such as support to the 2010 Olympics?
A10. The Canada First Defence Strategy calls for rebuilding the Canadian Forces to ensure the CF maintains excellence at home and in North America, and the ability to play a leadership role abroad. Domestic security will not be sacrificed for an international mission. At any given time, the CF has thousands of personnel assigned to domestic defence and security activities, regardless of our international commitments. Defending Canada and Canadians remains the CF’s first priority and a commitment to deliver excellence at home – including by providing civilian authorities with the assistance they require to ensure security at the 2010 Olympics – was the starting point for developing the Canada First Defence Strategy.
