Will a pci-e 2.0 card work in pci-e slot?
hi jono all pci-express cards(v1.0 and v2.0) will work in any pci-express bus slot, thats x16 and x8 slots(both v1.0 and v2.0) however in the case of a x8 pci-express slot you need to be aware that any card used in that slot will revert to the x8 speed and that includes v2.0 cards aswell as the v1.0 cards basically all pci-express cards are backwards compatible and the same applies to the motherboards so when you buy the latest motherboards that support pci-express v2.0 slots then you can still use the older v1.0 cards aswell as the newer v2.0 cards ok then,so whats the difference between v1.0 and v2.0 ? well in a nutshell “speed”..for example the pci-express v1.0 slot has a bandwidth of 0.25 GByte/second were as the pci-express v2.0 slot has doubled this speed to 0.5 GByte/second, meaning a ×32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GByte/s for both videocards (SLI 2×, etc.). PCIe 2.0 has two 32-bit channels for each GPU (2×16), while the first version only has 1×16 and is operating a
