Why would a mare reject her newborn foal?

I am glad the foal survived. I was unable to get mine enough colostrum. There are many things that can cause a mare to reject a foal. Another horse or disturbance in the pasture is the most common. Some mares get stressed enough from a person’s presence. Others are more relaxed if people are around. It just depends on the mare. Often times mares that are not separated from other horses in time will fail to bond because other horses will get between the mare and foal.
