Why was the Berlin Wall knocked down?
The Berlin wall was knocked down because that was the end of East and West Germany. It was the end and the death of Communism. The history of the Berlin wall is tragic to say the least. One day, in the sixties, there was no wall, and all of those in Berlin could travel anywhere in the city without a wall separating them from loved ones. Overnight, a wall went up, which sent the city into panic, despair, and heartbreak. Some loving families were separated forever. Tragically, there were some valiant individuals who tried to climb over the fence and were shot in thier efforts to get to the other side. They were shot and killed on sight. Other such brave souls. patiently dug a tunnel near the border so that those behind the iron curtain could escape to freedom back into West Germany, with only the clothes on thier backs. One has to applaud the heroism of those who stood up to communism and to those who gave freedom and victory back to those who had lost so much when the wall had gone up.
