Why not use stone dust instead of gravel for the base or instead of sand for the bedding layer?
Stone dust does not compact and maintain compaction like gravel. It also does not easily pass water based upon its fine dust particles. Water entrapment can allow rutting of the paver surface during freeze and thaw cycles. Do not allow stone dust to replace the gravel or bedding layer. Many contractors still utilize this method and it is not an acceptable alternative..
