Why not replace the factory air filter box with something else, or get rid of it, like other CAI brands do?
Our systems use a “closed” system design. In use with trucks that see exposure to extreme conditions including deep water, mud, and powder snow, the air filter element is enclosed in the factory box and not exposed to moisture that can clog the intake flow. Unlike an “open” design, the air is brought in from through the inner fender inlet snorkel from outside the under-hood heated environment. The large diameter Air Doc Intake pipe maintains maximum smooth flow of the intake charge by replacing the stock throttle body resonator box and the accordion style stock connecter hoses drawing in outside air. Often times calling an open system a cold air intake is entirely inaccurate by their very nature. It is possible in specific applications to increase the initial intake volume by simply having the filter on the end of a tube. However, you must consider the source of the air being drawn in. Sticking a filter on the end of a pipe in the engine compartment results in drawing in air that has b
