Why no metal detectors for Ringgold?
To the Editor: Years ago, when I attended school board meetings of the Ringgold School District, I asked that metal detectors be placed in all the schools. The district, since then, has talked about building a new school and closing schools. It has, with the help from outside groups, built a band area at the stadium, bought new athletic equipment, and a wellness center. The teachers are getting more raises, benefits and retirement benefits, and, I’m sure, the administrators will also receive more. Along with all the above, the board and the teachers constantly talk about how much they care about the children. I read, because they settled the contract early, they are going to do more about education. I remember, as William Brna said, in a recent letter, at a public meeting, one teacher saying, pay us more and we will teach better. That should have come first.
