Why Myasthenia Gravis?
In 1999, Lisa Lori left her job as Director of Public Relations for Absolut Vodka shortly after being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. Through aggressive treatment recommended by her doctors at New York Hospital, she is now in remission. However, despite extensive research and the encouragement of numerous doctors, on November 29, 2000, her son Zachary was born with transient neonatal myasthenia gravis. Fortunately, his condition was temporary, as the disease cannot be transferred genetically. To prevent this with her second child, she underwent an experimental treatment for MG called plasmapherysis to cleanse her blood of the disease. As she anticipates the birth of her third child and undergoes this treatment again, it is very important that all of the hard work that her and her doctors have gone through will be documented and utilized for future patients.
