VMware uses shared writable mmap for paging files but it doesn’t detect that this method is very inefficient. Workaround: Set “mainMem.useNamedFile=FALSE” in the .vmx file and VMware will perform much better. Please also this VMware Knowledge Base article which addresses troubleshooting the most common hosted disk I/O performance problems.
