Why is Space always so dark and black when the Sun is in the Solar system?

Because there is nothing for the sunlight to reflect off of. If you place an object in space, in the sunlight (such as the moon) then you would get the sunlight reflected toward your eyes. But since most of space is empty the light just keeps going away from the sun.
