oxycodone is a synthetic opiate, percocet is oxycodone with acetaminophen, as with these types of drugs when you take them for a length of time your body builds a tolerance for them thus making you need more to get the same effect from the drug that you once got, your body gets used to the drug and there for craves it, so when you stop, you have what is called withdrawal from the drug, and depending on what type of drug it is, the withdrawal can be horrible, this is common with all opiates. These drugs give the taker a feeling of euphoria, this is something that goes away the longer you take the drug, thus making you want to take more to obtain the feeling you used to get. Once you build a tolerance to the drug, you no longer get that same feeling no matter how much you take, and this is why so many people overdose and even die. The safest way to take this medication is to take only as prescribed, and when you do not need it anymore discuss with your doctor and he or she will taper you

Most people don’t understand that prescription drugs are just as dangerous as illegal drugs when not taken properly. Many drugs are addictive (in fact, the only drugs I can think of which are not addictive are marijuana and LSD). Stimulants (cocaine, amphetamine, etc.) and opiates, also known as narcotics (heroin, opium, codeine, oxycodone, etc.) are especially addicting and the body becomes dependent. When they are not taken, the person experiences unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. To avoid these symptoms, the person continues to take the drugs.

Long story short, they are chemicals that increase more dopamine in your brain. During a synapse they give a more pleasurable message to nerve endings where the injury is sending pain in your brain. There addictive because once someone stops taking them there’s much less dopamine.

Oxycodone is an opioid analgesic medication. It is commonly prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain. It almost makes you feel like you are high (not that I know how it feel like), so yeah.. It makes him feel good. He must be a bit depressed if he is getting addicted to it though. I am just guessing.
