Why doesn my floppy drive read the boot disk, when it says the device is working properly?
Try formatting the floppy on your computer. Not all floppy drives are exactly the same, so sometimes a disk can work in one computer but not in another. If that doesn’t work, try putting some other floppy disks into your floppy drive and see if your computer can read them. If it can’t then you have a problem with your floppy drive. If your floppy drive used to work, and now it doesn’t, then it is probably broken. Replace it. You can buy a floppy drive for $25. You can also try booting off of the CD-ROM drive instead of the floppy. Insert your original operating system disk, turn the computer off, and then turn it on. If it doesn’t boot from the CD-ROM, then modify your computer’s BIOS settings (check your computer’s manual or turn-on screen to see which function key you should hold down as your computer starts up) and add the CD-ROM to the BIOS’ list of bootable devices.
