Why doesn Harn have root crops?
The short statement in HarnWorld that Harn does not have root crops has puzzled many fans. It appears to have been an error. Potatoes and several other root crops were unknown in the middle ages on Earth, and so were deliberately kept out of descriptions of Harn. Somehow, this decision was accidentally expanded to become the statement that “root crops” were unknown on Harn. So now some GM’s go strictly by that statement (with the understanding that Harn is not the same as Earth), and others simply interpret “root crops” to mean those roots (principally tubers) which were unknown in medieval Europe. Overall it is a pretty insignificant issue, though it has caused extensive discussion in the past.
