It is digested somewhat, but not completely. Gastric juice excreted by the pancreas and gallbladder is highly acidic and dark green in color. Even if there is no food for it to digest, the pH is altered in the duodenum and it becomes a pale yellow low-level acid as it is mixed with water and neutralized by the membrane of the duodenum.
