Why do we need a Building Schools for the Future Programme?
The Council has embarked on a major strategy called “Remaking Learning” which seeks to transform education across all stages. In our secondary schools one of the barriers to transforming learning is the condition of our schools, which, as with many others across the country, have suffered from a significant lack of capital investment for many years. Many of our secondary schools require major capital investment simply to keep them operational in the medium term. Following a detailed assessment of the quality of all of our schools the Council has decided to replace all its secondary schools, all of one of its two special schools and approximately 50% of its second special school with completely new buildings which will provide state of the art 21st Century facilities for all who use them.
