The ability to move video and data signals through satellite and microwave links is limited, compared to fiber. That means fiber has greater capacity to handle increased demand in the future. Fiber is more dependable because it is not subject to the weather-related transmission glitches inherent in satellite and microwave links. Also, fiber is more cost effective and functional than microwave or satellite.
