Why do redheads have so many freckles and not brunettes or blonds?
The simplest way to explain is to state that they commonly have an excessive amount of freckles because of the pigment in their skin. Redheads tend to have lighter complexions, and because of that, the sun creates freckles (also known as sun-spots). Brunettes and blonds tend to have less pheomelanin, which is why they usually have less or no freckles. Extra Reference (taken from sites): a)Freckles are genetically determined, hereditary skin pigmentations that are harmless and don’t need treatment. Freckles are most common in redheads. People who freckle are often sensitive to sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation usually makes freckles more prominent by stimulating further production of skin pigment b)Red hair appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 which causes a change in the MC1R protein. It is associated with fair skin color, freckles, and sensitivity to ultraviolet light, as the mutated MC1R protein is found in the skin and eyes instead of the darker melan
