Dogs bury food as part of an ancient pagan ritual. Most dogs believe that there is a ‘mother earth’ spirit which inhabits the land and everything on it. Much like the Gaia figure recognised by humans. Dogs bury food as an offering, they usually perform it around this tim of year (as we enter winter) although they have been know to do it all year round.

Animals bury what they can’t eat, to preserve it for when they are hungry……in dogs it’s a hold over from their wild ancestors It may also be a corollary on your hunting skills, as food provider for the pack, you may not bringing home what he wants…..
