Why do african-american authors write about the same thing ?
Not all African American authors white about the same thing. That’s just ridiculous. Authors write about what they know so of course there are some books by African American authors that are about sex, drugs and violence. There is a whole genre of fiction (hip-hop fiction, urban fiction; which ever you prefer to call it) that has recently been getting a lot of attention. Books like The Coldest Winter Ever and Dutch fall into that category. But there are plenty of African American authors that don’t write about these things. Walter Mosley is a African American mystery writer. Octavia Butler writes science fiction. Nikki Giovanni is a poet. Toni Morrison writes novels. Their books hardly even touch sex, drugs or violence.
