Why did American University change the telephone service in the residence halls?
Several years ago telephone usage patterns started to change. Student ownership of cell phones has now reached the point where most students no longer require a university provided telephone service, and consequently, the revenue formerly received by the university to support long-distance calling has sharply declined. Eliminating the traditional residence hall telephone service helps the university control increases in its operating costs without inconveniencing the vast majority of students.
