TransViva is not aware of any current biometric device that directly connects to any system through the Internet. The few devices that do contain a modem connect to proprietary systems that require the use of modem banks and additional communications software at the host system. Typically, blood pressure monitors, digital scales, glucometers, or other biometric devices do not possess any network communications functionality. Biometric device manufacturers do not want to add cost, complexity, or future support issues to their products by adding communications and extra features that can easily be provided by an external computer. Manufacturers assume that their devices will connect to a computer through a communications port. Unfortunately, not all manufacturers implement the communications port on their devices in exactly the same way. This makes it difficult for a standard PC or handheld computer to effectively connect to every biometric device available to the healthcare industry. Tr
