Why block Webshots?
There is no doubt that Webshots offers a large number of very nice photos for screensavers. But the problem is that downloading those pictures take up bandwidth. The pipeline to the Internet is only so large and the more you fill it with advertisements, screensaver pictures, Internet radio stations and other non-education related activities, the more you limit the students and teachers who are trying to use the Internet for educational purposes. I realize that Webshots is a “fun” thing and that blocking some of the downloading capabilities at Webshots is not necessarily a popular thing to do. But with the increased need for Internet access for student workstations throughout the district, I feel that the needs of the students far outweigh a screen-saver. You can still download the pictures at home and bring them in on a floppy or burn the pictures to a CD, but I feel there is a need for the Internet resources purchased by community funds for Shelbyville Central Schools to be focused as
