Why aren WIMPs accumulating in Milky Way?

0

In fact, WIMPs may indeed be accumulating in the Milky Way center as they get trapped there gravitationally. One of the ways people are looking for evidence of WIMPs is by looking for annihilation products from the galactic center. For instance, an excess of gamma rays in a particular energy range coming from the center of the Galaxy could indicate the presence of clustered WIMPS there. But other less exotic processes make gamma rays too, and it’s hard to prove that observed radiation comes from WIMPs. We also look for high energy neutrinos from the center of the Milky Way (although the center of the Sun and Earth are closer and potentially more promising places to look)- no excess has so far been found.
