Why aren laptops used at panel meetings to record initial and consensus scores on ARS-517s, and to edit ARS-516s for RIG reports?
Using a laptop for the tasks mentioned would also require using a laptop projector. Projectors are hideously expensive to rent. True, there are light-weight models available and RPE Staff could purchase a couple. However, Personnel Representatives would not enjoy the prospect of lugging a laptop and projector along on a trip (especially through airport security). Also, it is not cost effective to have high-salaried panelists spending time on the detailed, line item editing of ARS-516’s. It is far more efficient to ensure that IDR’s do adequate pre-panel factfinding and ARS-516 preparation. We rarely encounter inadequate IDR’s, so there is usually enough information for generating reports when RIG is the outcome. On balance, the current procedures are perfectly adequate and cost effective.
