Why are there fees for fire code permits and some fire inspections?
Certain businesses engage in activities, operations, practices or functions that require a Fire Code permit. These permits have special conditions that must be met and verified through inspection. The City has determined that the additional technical work necessary for permit inspections should be covered by a fee. Every permit fee is calculated based on the average actual cost of performing the service. All fees have been approved by the City Council and are updated annually.Generally, the initial fire inspection of occupancies and the first re-inspection (to verify compliance) are done at no cost. If additional re-inspections are necessary to achieve code compliance, those re-inspections are fee-based and the business is billed for the service.
