Why are kids who are in the same school grade not automatically placed in the same division, like in soccer?
Unlike a sport like soccer where player age corresponds with school age, Little League players are placed in divisions depending on their age (baseball age as of April 30-Little League Canada rule); years played in the sport; player ability determined from the previous year’s coach assessment (Minor B, Minor A, Major B and Major A); mandatory pre-season assessment (Minor A, Major B and Major A); and space in the division. These factors may determine that your child may not be in the same division as a friend if one is born before April 30 and the other after that date. In Minor A and up into the Majors, teams are drafted and balancing takes priority over friendship requests.
