Why are footballers so over paid?

It’s a very bad businessman that is going to pay an employee more than that employee can generate in income for them. Premiership football players are only paid what they are worth to the club. The more talented they are, or rather, the more they are liked by the fans, the more income they will generate for the club from merchandising and ticket sales. Collectively a team of players with a large fan base can also give the club more income from sponsors and TV broadcasting rights. If you want things to change start a campaign to boycott everything to do with Premiership football clubs – don’t buy their merchandise, buy tickets for their games, watch them on TV or buy from their sponsors. Wages would come down significantly if you convinced enough people not to pay them… don’t know how much success you’d have though.
