Why a womens peace movement?
Women are the largest, most vibrant, most creative part of the peace movement in Israel. We are the largest part of the peace movement. To us, the end point is some kind of cooperation by both sides, a future of sharing the land, sharing resources, a future of cooperation in commerce, in culture, in sport. We’ve had Palestinian women and Israeli women march arm-in-arm through the streets of Jerusalem with a big sign that says, “We refuse to be enemies.” Q: Do you see progress? Do you see a resolution? A: I see progress because I take a long-term look at things. Twenty years ago, only 20 percent of Israelis believed in a two-state solution. Today, 70 percent of Israelis go along with it. Eighty percent of Palestinians support it. That’s huge progress. Today, the people of Israel recognize that Palestine is a nation and has a duly elected government.
