Why a post may placed in a tooth which has had root canal treatment?
a “post” is a rod which is positioned and cemented in a tooth’s root. Most posts are most made out of metal. Some dentists feel that the placement of a post can help to strengthen the root of a tooth, and therefore place them for that reason. Other dentists primarily rely on posts as a way of helping to firmly support that portion of the tooth (and its accompanying filling material) over which a crown will subsequently be cemented.
