Who will pay for the CO2?
The first 1,000,000 tons of CO2 to be sequestered on the Kimberlina site will be bought by WestCarb as part of the large-scale CO2 sequestration demonstration project. Subsequent to the onsite sequestration, the CO2 will be sold commercially. It is anticipated that the purchaser will most likely use it for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in one of the nearby oil fields that are shut-in or in severe decline.
