Who started kinesiology?
Kinesiology comes from Greek ‘kinesis’ meaning motion, and is known as the study of movement. It has been used as a diagnostic tool since 1964 when Dr George Goodheart, an American chiropractor, discovered that he could determine a great deal about a patient by testing their muscles. He developed a range of muscle tests that enabled him to assess the health of the whole body. Since then, the body of knowledge now known as Applied Kinesiology (AK) has developed rapidly, and much clinical research has validated the many new discoveries. Applied Kinesiology has gained widespread acceptance worldwide. In 1976 Brian Butler pioneered the concept of Applied Kinesiology in Great Britain and Europe. In 1988 the professional organisation called the Association of Systematic Kinesiology was started. Systematic Kinesiology has its roots in the practice and approach endorsed by the International College of Applied Kinesiology based in the United States.
