Who is Sure Scripts?
SureScripts is a Virginia-based company recently founded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of the overall prescribing process. What do they do? In short, they serve as a clearinghouse for electronic prescriptions, both new prescriptions and refill requests and authorizations. For example, the physician creates an electronic new prescription on a hand-held device and presses the send button. That prescription travels from the physician’s office to the software vendor’s office and on to Sure Scripts who then routes the prescription to the pharmacy software vendor (or chain headquarters) and then on to the patient’s pharmacy of choice.
