Who is a parent?
In education law ‘parent’ is defined so as to include natural parents as well as anyone who has parental responsibility as defined by the 1989 Children Act, or who has care of a child. There may be people other than natural parents who have responsibility for, and are entitled to be consulted about a child’s education.
A male or female faculty or staff member, graduate student employee, or post-doc who is a birth mother; a father of the birth child; a same-sex domestic partner of the birth mother; a same-sex domestic partner of the birth father; an adoptive mother or father; a same-sex domestic partner of an adoptive mother or father.
