Who has experience of positive deviants in their organization or project work?
I am studying for an MSc in Consulting and Coaching for Change run jointly by Said Business School in Oxford and the HEC School of Management in Paris. For my research project, I want to explore the growing interest in the area of positive deviants as a source of change initiatives within commercial organizations. As you may be aware, the area of Positive Deviants came to the fore with the 2005 HBR article by Pascale and Sternin “Your Company’s Secret Change Agents”. Based on the original work by the Sternins in Vietnam, it was recognised that in every community there are certain individuals whose uncommon practices/behaviours enable them to find better solutions to problems than their neighbours who have access to the same resources. Whilst this refers to villagers in Vietnam, the same holds true in commercial organisations.
