Hi, I’ve noticed that many of you know that your children have other types of issues besides autism such as learning disabilities, apraxia, hyperlexia, learning disabilities, non-verbal language disorder, etc., and I’m just wondering what type of professional diagnoses these things? Was this your pediatrician? Who does the diagnosis of a learning disability? Do these only show up later at school? Thanks. NowwhatYou can ask your child’s school to assess him for learning disabilities, but you may not get an honest evaluation. That’s what happened to us. I asked for the evaluation, and they came back with a “He’s fine. No learning disabilities”. I knew they were full of crap, so I had a full educational assessment done by the speech therapist and leading psychologist from the practice where he went to social skills therapy. This was where he had his most accurate IQ test done as well. Lo and behold, not only did he test at a gifted IQ, but he showed significant learning disabilities in 5
