Who Are Gurkhas?
You might have heard this word somewhere! The soldiers from Nepal who have been serving the British Empire since 1812 to present day are called Gurkhas. The word Gurkhas is derived from the word Gorkha which is a name of the place in Western Nepal. They are renowned for their unparalleled bravery & loyalty. The words like fearless, bravest of the brave, one of a kind etc are used to describe them. But there is no word good enough for the true definition of these humble but honorable soldiers from this impoverished country called Nepal. It all started from the British Raj in India. Troops were sent north with the mission to capture & colonize Nepal. That did not happen and the British were so impressed with the Nepalese soldiers that they eventually decided to extend the hand of friendship instead. But some might still argue that they were actually bribed to work for the British. Whatever the reason might be, it was the 1st step of a great journey that still going on strong today after
