I believe that the zealot was considered Simon Peter for he had great devotion and love for Jesus. He was also protective of Jesus (he bit the ear off of a guard who came to arrest Jesus) and wanted to preserve his divinity (he didn’t want Jesus to wash his feet). Peter was unaware that he could not save the Savior. He was blinded by his own fervor to know Jesus!
