Where will the CO2 go?

0

During the sequestration phase, CO2 sequestered in saline aquifers and will remain in place, trapped by impermeable cap rock formations. Some of the CO2 will dissolve in salt water, some will combine with other elements to become solid rock and some will remain as trapped CO2. The trapped CO2 will slowly migrate laterally within the formation. Given the geochemical reactions and the cap rock formations, the intent is for the carbon dioxide to be trapped for thousands of years. In the EOR phase, interested oil producers will purchase CO2 delivered by pipeline to their oil fields. The need for pipeline delivery restricts the delivery to oil fields in close proximity to the CALZEPP plant. When injected into an oil reservoir, the CO2 thins the crude oil (as a natural solvent) and pushes the thinned oil toward producer wells.
