Where will people park?
The theater will operate primarily during evening hours, when surrounding businesses are closed. Local street traffic is lighter in the evening, and while neighboring lots may be unavailable, many street spaces will be available. Almost 3,000 people attended the Open House that was held at the theater several years ago from 4 – 8 p.m. and parking was not a problem. In some cities, theaters have been able to partner with surrounding businesses for parking. This may or may not occur for the Cerrito, but will be an option over time as evening commerce increases in the area. Additionally, many patrons of the theater will walk from BART or surrounding neighborhoods. In the east bay there are only a handful of theaters within walking distance of a BART station and this will be a major amenity for regional patrons.
In most cases people can park in the lot behind Casa Feliz. If more than 40 cars are expected, or if the event falls on the same day/evening that the Golf Club is having an event, we need to make arrangements with the Christian Science Church across the street, which offers its lot of 52 spaces for a $100 donation.
There is ample public parking surrounding the area and within one to two blocks of the proposed music center. There are two public parking garages on Cameron Street, another on Colesville Road and Spring Street. In addition, there are two new public garages on Fenton and Ellsworth and Wayne Avenue. The property is one and a half blocks north of the Silver Spring (Red Line) Metro stop. In addition there is a surface lot behind the proposed music center that will eventually be a parking garage when the larger redevelopment project is completed. The amount of available night time public parking far exceeds the music center’s needs. Click here for map of parking options.
