Daedalus, whose name can be translated roughly as “cunningly wrought,” was the Greek craftsman who constructed the labyrinth of the Minotaur and the wings on which Icarus soared toward the sun. Stephen Dedalus is the protagonist of James Joyce’s novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Ulysses.
