Where does money from the ticket fines and permit fees go?
The Division of Parking Services is not supported by the state and is an auxiliary division of Kent State University. The University does not contribute financially to Parking Services, and no mandatory student fees are used to support the departmental budget. Parking Service’s operating budget is built entirely on projected income from student and staff permit sales, meters, special event parking, parking fines, the Student Center Visitors lot, conference, and workshop parking. Fiscal expenditures include salaries and benefits for 25 administrative and civil service employees, as well as salaries for 25 student employees. In keeping with Parking Services Mission, the department is committed to providing safe, well-lit, and well-maintained parking lots. This critical responsibility encompasses more than 71 surface lots that require costly lot repairs, painting, patching, resurfacing, snow plowing, salting, and weed control.
