When was the SFU Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) formed?
The SAC was formed in 2005 when the student-led group Sustainable Campus Coalition (SCC) approached SFU’s senior administration to express interest in working with SFU’s administration to undertake activities that promote the study and practice of sustainability at SFU. At the same time, SFU recognized a need to better integrate the many initiatives already started at the University, and to better communicate the support of administration for initiatives that promote sustainability principles throughout the University. The administration, therefore, proposed that the President designate responsibility for sustainability within the portfolio of the Vice-President, Finance & Administration, with specific responsibility to serve as the executive sponsor for Sustainability and to oversee the formation of a Sustainability Advisory Committee. The committee is currently co-chaired by the Chief Facilities Officer/University Architect and the Director, Special Projects.
