When was the first hydrogen bomb built?
The Atomic Energy Commission and the U.S. Department of Defense detonated the first workable hydrogen bomb on Nov. 1, 1952, at Enewetak Atoll Pacific Proving Ground in the Marshall Islands. The bomb blast completely vaporized Elugelap, the island where the device was built. The discovery that led to the hydrogen bomb took place at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1942.
