When are final MLB game forecasts run/posted?
Preliminary simulations are run the night prior (posted around 2 am EST the day of the game). Simulations are run again incorporating the previous day’s game data and these results are posted around 11 am EST the day of the game. Finally, a third review is done and typically 2 to 4 games need to be re-run with additional player updates. These “final” simulations are posted by 2 or 3 pm EST for games that start at 7 pm. With each run, projected lineups and starting pitchers are double-checked. Each year there may be a handful of late scratches and pitching changes (under 5 per season) that cannot be updated in time for the game, but 99% of the time the lineups and pitchers are correctly revised by the 3rd iteration of simulations.
