Whats with IU football?
If you discount the mid- and late 1960s, Indiana football has followed a distinct tradition — one of losing seasons. IU has hyped the hiring of a new coach for decades — 40 years. Now no one will credit a revised stadium for bringing a winning season to Hoosierdom. There was no special blessing here. What did IU do under John Pont to achieve a Rose Bowl appearance? And, why can’t the university replicate the football program of the 1960s? IU football will continue to field a poor team. Every so often, a great player plays at Indiana. That is as much as any Hoosier fan can ask. Don’t ask for conference championships and national rankings. Amazingly enough, IU has the potential to knock off a Top 25 team each year. What is happening at Indiana that fewer talented players wish to play there? Isn’t there one coach out there in all of America able to again bring a winning tradition to the team?
