Whats it like to get a tb test?
You should call your family doctor and schedule a TB test. All they do is put a needle in your forearm (slightly above your wrist) and inject a little bit of serum to make a small “bubble” in your skin. It doesn’t hurt apart from the needle prick. Depending on how this serum reacts, they will be able to tell if you are positive or negative for TB. The “bubble” turns into a spot over the course of a week or so.
A tb test is to see if you have tuberculosis. Which has to do with the lungs. Very contagious if you get breathed on by someone who has it. The shot is like a mosquitoe bite. Doesn’t hurt, but when you get tested you want it to stay flat and not turn colors or get big. Do not put any lotion or anything on it or it will mess up the results. You shouldn’t have to make an appointment.
Easy. We use a very fine needle and put the PPD right under the skin on the forearm. It leaves a little bleb or rising for a bit then goes away. If the area still shows swelling or swelling occurs within 48-72 hours, then that is a positive test. If the test is positive, we do a chest xray to rule out TB. The reason is some people show a false positive on the PPD. After the nurse administers the test, circle it. You need to go back to the nurse to have it read within 48-72 hours. Check with them to know when to come back. The form then needs to be signed by an RN or an MD. It stings a little.
I just got mine for work. Make an appointment with your doctor or wherever you’re going to get it done. No fasting needed, just go and they’ll do it. They stick a needle into your forearm and a little bubble forms. After 3 days you go back and they check it to make sure there’s no reaction. It swells a little and might bruise but they’ll look for a large bubble or rash at the test site. I had to get 2 shots, the first one and then 3 days later it was checked, then the next week it started over again with my other arm. It doesn’t hurt either so don’t be scared.
A TB test is a scratch test. They put a little TB inert virus on your forearm and then scratch your skin. In ?? days you go back and if it is not red and swollen then you are free of TB. Sorry I don’t remember how many days. The local health clinic can do this. When I went to work with food I had to take one. No fasting or anything special. This is not a test you can study for.
