Shepherd’s Pie INGREDIENTS: 2 cups cooked chopped meat 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion 2 cups gravy salt and pepper 2 cups mashed potato, prepared with milk and seasonings as desired salt and pepper 1/8 teaspoon paprika 1 tablespoon butter PREPARATION: Combine meat, gravy, and chopped onion; season with salt and pepper to taste. Line the bottom of a buttered baking dish with a layer of half of the seasoned mashed potatoes. Add meat mixture then cover with remaining mashed potatoes. Or, meat and gravy can be put in the baking dish first then topped with all of the mashed potatoes. Dot mashed potato topping with butter, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika, then bake for about 30 minutes at 400°, or until potato topping is browned and the Shepherd’s pie is thoroughly heated.

When made with beef, this dish is traditionally called Cottage Pie. I prefer my Cottage Pie with shredded overcooked beef rather than ground hamburger beef. 1 lb mince lamb 1 large sliced onion 2 oz sliced mushrooms 2 carrots sliced 1 ozplain flour 1/2 pint of stock 1 tlbp tomatoe puree 1 1/2 lbs potatoes 1 oz butter 4 tbs milk 2 oz cheese Pre-heat oven 200c (400f). Fry lamb, onion, mushrooms and carrots for 8 mins. Add flour and cook stirring for 1 min. Gradually blend in stock and tomato puree. Cook stirring until it boils, then, cover and simmer for 25mins. Cook potatoes for 20 mins. Drain well and mash with butter and milk. Put mince into casserole dish and top with potatoes. Sprinkle cheese on top. Bake in oven for 20mins. Shepherds pie can be made your own way i always do it how who ever likes when they come over some with peas and carrots some with corgettes. Nothing better than aunt bessies out of a box like if you have not got the ingredients in lol. My favourite is peas carrots 1lb of mince with some gravy i add it till its floaty pre cok it make sure mince is done then put mashed potatoe on top run fork along top for texture and put in oven for twenty minutes ok.
