What would be some disadvantages of a person lacking emotional intelligence?
Everyone has emotional intelligence, just like everyone has “math intelligence.” Just like math, some people have developed the skills, and some people may have more innate ability. Since emotional intelligence, or EQ, is all about forming healthy relationships with yourself and others, someone with a poorly developed EQ will have more relationships troubles. I was interested to hear from Dr. Peter Salovey that people with high EQ are not always happier — they often feel both the pain and pleasure of the world more strongly. Here are a few ideas of “signs” or results of not developing EQ: Troubles in relationship with self • Unable to change behaviors • Lack of self-awareness • Lots of frustration with the world • Depression • Explosive anger • Lack of energy and engagement • Making poor decisions about people or what’s important • Not able to grieve or transition through grief.
