What was the architectural inspiration?
Originally, the Texas was built with a Venetian architectural design. The interior was made to represent a courtyard, with indirect lighting arrangements tinting the tile roofs of the walls to provide the illusion of a huge cauldron of fire in the streets beyond. Lights reflected upon blue inlaid panels of the walls gave the effect of water flowing in the canals. After many years, the inside of theater was covered in stucco, hiding most of these original architectural designs. The Oak Cliff Foundation hopes to one day raise enough funds to revive the interior.
